Designed by Florence Knoll
Considered a seminal leader of 20th-century design, Florence Knoll grew up among designers. In partnership with her husband, Hans, she championed the Bauhaus approach to furniture design at Knoll: to offer objects that reflect design, technological innovation and mass production. Her intellect and keen eye brought Knoll to the forefront of modern design, thus creating the legacy that continues today.

The Design

As a pioneer of the Knoll Planning Unit, Florence Knoll created what she modestly referred to as the “fill-in pieces that no one else wants to do.” She refers to her own line of lounge seating as the equivalent of “meat and potatoes,” asserting, “I needed the piece of furniture for a job and it wasn’t there, so I designed it.”

Like so many of her ground-breaking designs that set the industry’s gold standard, the 1954 Lounge collection has made it into the pantheon of modern classics. Consistent with all of Knoll’s designs, the Lounge collection has a spare, angular profile that reflects the objective perfectionism of modern design in the early 1960s. The pieces in this collection are perfect for both formal and casual settings, including reception areas, universities, museums and private homes. Upholstery is available in quality leather for a classic look, or in dozens of both bright and neutral fabric options for more casual spaces.

Care & Maintenance

To clean fabric, vacuum frequently or brush lightly to remove surface dust. Professional cleaning should be done regularly to remove soiling not cleaned by vacuuming. Wipe all spills immediately. Try a hidden area to test for color fastness with all stain removal methods.
For Acqua, Ducale, Sabrina, or Volo leather, maintain by wiping with a cool, damp cloth. For tougher soiling, use a pH balanced soap on cloth and rinse.
For Prima Leather, wipe entire surface with a soft cloth and cool water. Do not spot-rub.

Delivery Instructions

This item will be delivered by a white glove freight carrier to ensure the safest and most convenient delivery. Please note:

A white glove delivery team consists of at least two people so you will not be burdened with carrying your order from the back of the truck to your home.

Once your order arrives in your area, a representative from the white glove carrier will call you to arrange a 4 hour window for delivery.

You must inspect your package at the time of delivery. If the product has any damage or if you are concerned there may be damage, please write "Product Damaged" on the sheet you are asked to sign. This ensures that if there is any damage, it will be easy to resolve the problem.

Delivery to: Inside your residence to the room you choose. This includes carrying the product up two flights of stairs from the building threshold (4-15 steps = 1 flight). If you need the product moved up additional flights, please contact us*.

Packaging: The product will be left in the original packaging.
